Solid Steel Radio, Oct 09 2009
DK, Anti-Pop Consortium & Bong
Solid Steel in association with Serato (9th October) This week DK catches up with current releases filling his digital record box. Jern Eye starts the proceedings taking hip hop in the right direction, followed by more leftfield beats from Dorian Concept, NDV and the Ghost remix of The Heavy. Brazilian flavours next from The Magic Drum Orchestra and Baden Powell, then we step up a gear for Grand Puba, Hint, Aquasky and rave influenced stormers from Posthuman and Crowhead.
Mercury winner Speech Debelle gets the DVA treatment and Son of Kick are remixed by Stereotyp, before taking a breath with the classic "Trip to your mind" by the Hudson People. More bass heavy beats follow from Pantyraid, Remdog and another Botanika label track from Kalbata, before ending with the much hyped (but deserved) Joy Orbison.
Anti-Pop Consortium are up next being interviewed about their new album "Fluorescent Black". We get an insight into recording the album and listen to a few tracks, along with music that has influenced them, from Just Ice and Original Concept to Ciccone Youth and Tears for Fears.
We close the show with a blissed out mix from Bong. The New Brighton, USA residents puts the beats aside and takes us on a trip through a sonic sculpture with music from Blacksand, Howie B & Húbert Nói , Hawkwind and Fripp & Eno.
